Although there’s not much to see on site yet, there is a lot happening behind the scenes to ensure that final planning conditions can be discharged.
Once these conditions have been discharged, the demolition of buildings in the area to be developed first – known as Phase 1a – can progress.
For the sake of efficiency and to minimise disruption we will aim to demolish Springman House at the same time. Lewes District Council is in the process of purchasing Springman House and once the existing building has been demolished, a new community fire station will be constructed on the site.
In the meantime, there is plenty of action to see on Malling Brooks Industrial Estate – with cranes due to arrive in the next couple of weeks – as the new factory for John Gosnell starts to go up. John Gosnell & Co – affectionately known as the “Soap Factory” – will move to their new home at the end of the year. Several other tenants from Phoenix Industrial Estate are also moving to new units at Malling Brooks as part of the North Street Quarter regeneration scheme.
