These events have now taken place but you can find out more here: http://northstreetqtr.co.uk/pells-malling-fields-consultation/
Lewes residents will have the opportunity to contribute to proposals for Pells Recreation Ground and Malling Fields at public consultation events on Friday, November 25, 10am-6:30pm at St John’s Church Hall, Talbot Terrace and Saturday, November 26, 10am -2pm at Malling Community Centre.
The events are hosted by Santon North Street and Lewes District Council, who are regenerating the area known as North Street Quarter. As part of the planning approval, which was granted earlier this year, funds have been set aside to upgrade the two recreational areas to provide attractive, safe and well-designed play spaces.
The developers are keen to consult with local people to find out what they like about the current facilities and how they would like these to be improved. The Landscape Architects will be on hand to discuss how local people perceive the spaces, answer questions and gather feedback from residents.
Lewes Town Councillor Susan Murray, Chair of the Landscape and Play Working Group, said: “We are looking forward to hearing ideas for the recreation grounds from the people who use them. We are particularly keen to get feedback from children, so mums and dads, please do bring your little ones along. Everyone is welcome to pop in at their convenience and we hope that as many people as possible will come along and talk to us.”
This event is the first in a series of public consultations to gather thoughts and opinions from members of the public which will help shape the final plans for Malling Fields and Pells Recreation Ground.
Clive Wilding, Director of Santon North Street, said: “Lewes residents have been instrumental in developing the plans for North Street Quarter during the three year consultation leading up to planning consent. I’m sure that they will have some great ideas on how we can make the most of this opportunity to develop a fantastic recreational resource that Lewesians of all ages can enjoy. We look forward to hearing their views.”
Cllr Andy Smith, Leader of Lewes District Council said: “I would urge local residents to attend and contribute to the proposals for Pells Recreation Ground and Malling Fields at the public consultation events taking place on 25 November. We want to hear from as many people as possible, including young people, so that their ideas and views can help shape the final plans. This brings us one step closer to delivering a huge number of community benefits to the town of Lewes including homes, flood defences jobs and great public spaces. The regeneration of the largest brownfield site in the historic county town of Lewes is making progress.”
The North Street Quarter development will bring considerable assets to the town, including 416 new houses, of which 40% (165) are affordable homes; a new health hub; a public car park with 330 spaces and extensive works on the River Ouse will complete the town’s flood defences and create new public access to the river with a footbridge and a riverside promenade. Work to prepare the site for development began in September and the first phase is scheduled to be completed in 2019.
